Data Workbench - CSV and Spreadsheet Editor

Open CSV, TSV, JSON or Excel locally. Filter, sort, clean and calculate columns, then export your table without uploading it.

Files stay on your device. Recovery copies expire after 48 hours.

Paste a table including a unique, non-empty header row. JSON must be an array of objects.

How to use

  1. 01 Open your table

Choose, drop or paste a CSV, TSV, JSON, XLSX or XLS file. The first row becomes column headers. For Excel, choose the worksheet before making edits.

  2. 02 Prepare your data

Search, combine filters and sort multiple columns. Select columns to remove duplicates, fill blanks or extract a smaller table. Add calculated columns using arithmetic or logical expressions.

  3. 03 Review and export

Preview the first five output rows and download all matching rows as CSV, TSV, JSON, Markdown, HTML or SQL INSERT statements.

Privacy and recovery

Your table is processed locally. When storage is available, changes are saved on this device for recovery after refresh. Close workspace clears the local recovery copy. No file contents are sent to analytics.

Compatibility

Use a recent desktop or mobile browser with Web Workers. Input: CSV, TSV, JSON arrays of objects, XLSX and XLS. Excel opens one sheet at a time using displayed values. Password protection, formatting and live spreadsheet formulas are not supported.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded?
No. Reading, editing and exporting run in your browser. A recovery copy is stored on this device when browser storage is available, expires after 48 hours and can be cleared with Close workspace.
What are the limits?
Up to 50 MB per file, 250,000 data rows, 100 columns and 2 million cells. Each cell is limited to 100,000 characters. Actual performance depends on your device. Use a smaller file if your browser runs out of memory.
Can I use this on mobile for free?
Yes. There is no account or payment requirement. Use a recent browser with Web Worker support. Mobile has a full-screen table and tool panels; smaller files work best on phones.
Can I open password-protected Excel files?
No. Remove the password in your spreadsheet application first. Excel imports displayed cell values from one worksheet at a time, not formatting, macros or live formulas.
How do calculations and data types work?
Cells are stored and exported as text to preserve identifiers such as 0012. Formulas convert numeric text to numbers while calculating. For price=12 and quantity=3, price * quantity creates 36. A logical formula price > 10 creates true. Calculated columns are snapshots; they do not recalculate after later edits.
How are filters and cleaning applied?
Filters and search change the view and exported rows. Cleaning and formulas apply to the full table, including hidden rows. Remove duplicates keeps the first row with identical values in the selected columns. Undo and redo restore recent edits.
How is this different from CSV Viewer?
CSV Viewer handles quick CSV sorting and conversion. Data Workbench keeps a table open across multi-condition filters, multi-column sorting, cleaning, calculations and exports. For example, duplicate A,2 rows become one A,2 row after removing duplicates.
